Watcha Mick, can be a right pig to get these on sometimes. I had trouble fitting mine on my Impulse and thats only got 2 carbs !! Could you try it the other way around and put the carbs on the air box and then pop em into the engine rubbers ?
Sometimes you need to walk away and try another day.
Good luck mate.

hot air gun? i always get the airbox side rubbers on first, and tighten them all up before pulling the carbs forward onto the engine side rubbers. i have had the hot air gun in the airbox before now, blowing heat into the rubbers from inside, that way they wont cool down.

hey mick, is there any way you could heat up the airbox and pull the centres out, maybe pack the two middle one out and then let it cool down

Do the rubbers turn ? some airbox rubbers are not straight they have to be at the correct angle and then they are straight. does that make sense ?, a strange example but imagine the leaning tower of pizza, if you turned it the angle at the top would change.

This prob wont help and is maybe a last resort, but there is a air box on ebay at the moment quite cheap.

Just don't get the monkey who posed as a "mechanic" who did my bike to do it.
Said monkey couldn't get the carbs back on, on my pop up so cut the airbox in half fitted carbs then (badly) tried to seal the 2 halves with silicon sealent!!
Guess the tw*t thought I'd never notice....needless to say he wasn't paid & shortly after he ceased trading
Good luck with getting this sorted Mick

I saw many of these old airboxes bent. No buying another old one wouldn't be my personal option. You can push it with a hammer grip, but the tension within the box will probably draw the stacks out again. You got to try to cure the problem with heating and reforming the box, as the material is a thermoplast.

First you have to find out the temparature the material melts, or get near there very carefully. As that temperature is probably higher than 100°C my medium of choice for controlled heating would be oil. Do the heating after you disassembled the stacks as they will probably get burnt otherwise. With a good preparation and an assembly easy and safe to handle you could make a living with it, I suppose…
In case you destroy your airbox, I'm sure I have one or two for you for more tries you could have for a donation to Fossie for club funds. Presuming you have a big Kat…
Using pods is an easy option, but my experience is that they don't run too well on stock Katana CV carbs. I heard different opinions though. Moreover, easy options are for wimps, aren't they?
Errrr… I'm a wimp, obviously, 'cause I run K&Ns on my Kats, but I use either B12 or Gixxer carbs with dual pods plus jetkit or just RS flatties…
