Mine has already reached historical status so maybe next year we could form a club within a club. As for the 'pass' switch..........muppet.

The switch is a rocker , with 2 little springs inside that have a ball bearing on the end that makes the contact with which ever function is called upon ...
It will just be dirt on the ball bearing ......but you will loose one , so good luck.

How did you not know ?😀

To day Was mass MOT day ...
As my local MOT Bay has closed , I had take them to my next nearest bay which is a good blast away😉🤗
Strange changing from a 650 to a Pop up , then an S2 in quick succession , they look the same but hey the're not, it only takes a couple of minutes to adapt but wiered .

( They all passed as you'd have hoped !)

Are the 650s not exempt now?
Mine aren't as they are late 83 ...one which is 82 will be next year as the rules are 40 years old before the 1 st of Jan that year .....so if you KAT is registered on our after 2 Jan 1982 it still is under 40 years old ....so all these tax exempt Kats for sale are not really .....The bike must also be registered as historic vehicle with DVLA , this must be done at a post office , and a tax application is to be made but it will show £0.00 fee.
Again I bet most are not registered so , meaning if you just assume because it's a 1982 bike you can get away with out tax and MOT , because your bike is W or X reg , your insurance is invalid .oh and can be seized ala tv cop programs ...

I registered my 1000 as historic this year's it is an 81...and it couldn't be easier.
Just took the log book to the post office and they did everything there for me...then taxed it for free, you just need to sign the exemption form
The only hold up was DVLA actually sending the log book back. I had to phone them after about 6 weeks as it hadn't arrived, apparently a cock up there end but soon resolved .
The other one is exempt from next year, so I'll be straight down and get that one done too!

Well done Bob ..I'm aware it straightforward and thanks for the heads up, my point was just that urban myth about 40 year point will lead to dissapointment .
I know of 2 people who can't be bothered with the visit to the post office .🤔
Like you first chance ...hello Pat!

So on my log book for my SD.
Was registered/used overseas. Declared manufactured 1982.
Date of first registration 05 08 1997
Date of first registration in the U.K. 05 08 1997
Original registration was A plate.
Age related plate allocated after crash damage is W plate.
Can I claim it as a W please?

Strange one because if you have a W plate then the frame must be 1980 ( a year before Kats were born!)
How have you got a log book with A plate info on a w plate ....oh DVLA & naff paperwork filling out .
As Blix said wait till January it'll save unanswerable questions :D
