Re: Get yer pics oot for the lads!
My old Yamaha XT600Z 3AJ
Was my daily commuter from North Walsham to the Chemical Dump, er sorry, Factory on the West side of Norwich for about 4 years.
Was as rough as a badgers derriere cosmetically, but reliable as anything else in sun, rain, hail, snow or whatever.
Lower side of the tank had "temporary" repair following low speed intro to tarmac
Alternator cover took a beating a couple of times as it had a side stand, not as bad as a Ducati, but close.
"97" sticker on screen was from a "Bike" magazine Ride-in from Malton (I think) to Oliver's Mount, Scarborough for the Gold Cup races.

I Remember borrowing the Ten for a camping week end. Caught short at 5 am and firing it up to get to the toilet block. If my fellow campers where not awake they certainly where then. The Motad exhaust was LOUD!

Aah, yes. Roll past a line of parked cars in third gear. Then wind open the throttle to see which ones had alarms!

Re: Get yer pics oot for the lads!
Found this photo of my bike looking very sorry for itself.
Sally Line ferry, Ramsgate to Ostend, in the 1990s.
It's lying in a pool of its engine oil! The alternator casing had split open.
Not the best start to a holiday.

Re: Get yer pics oot for the lads!
The 4 into 1 exhaust means there is no centre stand so it was on the side stand. The deck crew did not lash it down well enough, or chock the wheels, and the ferry had to make a violent evasive manoeuvre to avoid a collision as it was coming into Ostend. The lurch of the ship was quite significant and was easily felt from where we were sitting in the upper passenger deck.

Re: Get yer pics oot for the lads!
It doesn’t surprise me the bike was damaged. I used the Ramsgate to Oostende crossing regularly in the 1990’s when I was driving chemical tankers across Europe. They where the only company that would transport the chemicals we delivered, all the others wouldn’t entertain us. The deck crew where shoddy to say the least!
Many times I had to chain my lorry down properly.

Re: Get yer pics oot for the lads!
The junk that I don't throw away never ceases to amaze me! I found the claim forms for the damage to the bike. It happened on 11:30am sailing from Ramsgate on 2nd July 1994.
For the parts and my time for the labour (I did the repairs myself) I invoiced them for £428.85, and that included a new faring, indicator, mirror, engine casing, gaskets, oil etc. Not to mention VAT at 11.5% You don't get prices like that any more!
Mrs GSF34058 and I had to return to Ramsgate that afternoon to patch up the bike. The upside was that were able to go to a friend's wedding reception in Kent that evening, that we had previously said we would not have been to attend. We caused quite a stir strolling in to the reception unannounced wearing full bike gear.
