Hi UB,
Thanks for the reply. The Kat 1000 I was considering was supposed to be correct in all that was presented. But after message from you guys, obviously, I will not be buying that one! And the 400 restoration project was just going to an ongoing interest.
I currently own a CBR1000RR (O4), a Triumph TR6C and just finished a 1977 CB125J for my wife to get started. So I like the "old" stuff! (I am no spring chicken myself!) I just want a good and honest bike. I still would like a restoration project that I could tinker with. Since the Katana 1100 or 1000 will be a birthday present it will be staying with me for a long time.
I am not very good at navigating my way around the Kat web site, tried to look at what's for sale and said that I can't have access? Is there a subscription fee? If so who do I contact?
If you have a bike for sale or could point me in the direction of one I would appreciate that.

Have you seen the Katana 650 just listed on evilbay with only 46 miles on the clock!

Thanks again UB
Regards

Details on joining the club are here:
viewtopic.php?f=43&t=7910

The For Sale page is members only but to be honest there isn't anything in there, I think at the moment. There isn't much on EBay apart from over priced dealer ones.

Look further a field and found this nice one in Germany:
https://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/deta ... ff61c65995

If the seller is helpful it's easy to get that back to the UK (cost about £500 or if you have a van have a holiday!), MOT, first reg fee at £55 and it's done. Tax and MOT free in 3 years as well. That has to be an easy £5.5-6k bike in the UK, possibly more to the right buyer. I got an 1100 from Switzerland 2 years ago and total cost was about £3k, and it's a very nice bike indeed (December on this years ACS calendar!).

Hi All,
With regards to the Kat 400 for sale. I took your advice and asked the seller if he would accept an offer of about £1200. The seller replied and said because the bike is so original (no it's not!) it was worth a lot more. I would have liked this bike as a long term project so I again contacted the seller again and asked if he would accept £1500. No reply to my offer. The seller seems a bit difficult person to deal with? Anyway, I will keep looking for a shed project! So if anyone is considering purchasing this bike, now you have an idea of sellers' desired price.

Hi UB,
Thank you for the heads-up about the Kat located in Germany. I have emailed the seller and will keep you updated about the progress.
Cheers

Pedda who's our German Katana Owners liaison says that the bike in Germany has Swiss papers and no German ones. I have a feeling Swiss Katana's were less power (mine Swiss bike was originally from Italy so full power).
If the import taxes have been paid in Germany then there is nothing else to pay. If that can't be proved (paperwork lost) though then the bike would be subject to 5% VAT (only as over 30 years old) on import to the UK. If you decide to go for it, but before you pay, let me know as I have more info.

I would leave the 400 £1500 IMO is too much really. £1200-£1300. Let it sit there...

Hi Uncle Bob,
Still not heard anything from the seller. If bikes available and with a little help I probably will go for this bike!
Cheers

It is possible Pedda could make first contact for you (though we normally ask you to be a club member...) - you'd have to ask him (see other post in Ebay Advert where I linked to viewtopic.php?f=40&t=8204 - you can use PM system from there).

Pedda has mentioned before the Germans are wary of foreign interest due to scams etc. so they might not reply.

Here is the thread from when I got my Swiss 1100 with info on the import process.
viewtopic.php?f=40&t=7373&hilit=switzerland#p51516

If there is no evidence of import duty being paid (from Switzerland to Germany) you will have to pay again on entering the UK. The commodity codes used on that page are correct for a vehicle over 30 years old, so only 5%. The import people I used (Chas Mortimer and I can recommend them) initially used the wrong code and I got a surprise invoice for a lot more money, but after a call or 2 it was corrected!!!

Keep us informed of how you get on.

Uncle Bob,
What would be the likely process? Payments, collection, delivery, and any taxes? Is this a complicated process? This is completely new to me, including joining an owners club and using a forum. I don't know how to pay my sub by using PayPal, I have asked if I can set up a Direct Debit?

Is something like the advert listen in MCN (The rare 1000cc Katana, taxed and mot’d, standard apart from a Harris 4 into 1 full system. Owned by me since 2002, imported from the US by the previous owner. Selling due to lack of use and sadly getting too old to tolerate being in the racing position on a bike anymore Price £9500). a reasonable and simpler alternative?

But paying £3500 seems a lot more attractive! Sorry just a little worried about a process that I have very little knowledge of.
Regard

Don't fret about the importing process, I have done it 3 times and if I can do it even a chimp can!

I can recommend Chas Mortimer aswell he collected my last one near Denmark, brought back to UK all paperwork sorted , then held until I was available to accept delivery , email at ever stage.

Start by making contact with seller and we will walk you through the process.
All we require as said is you join the club, we can accept £10 as a cheque if needed or in cash at the NABD rally in May should you fancy a weekend in a field with 20 bands , 20 beers and ciders and more than 20 club members ;)

Hi Fozzie,
I still have not heard anything back from the seller. I will try dropping him another message. Uncle Bob suggested that the seller may be wary of being scammed.
