Re: Eurokat 9
We were chatting over the weekend about the fossie/site stop over... Keith has some ideas for somewhere nicer than an F1 for similar £ - he was going to get something written down for the grp to have a look at. Maybe nice before next pride is out Sj details can go in

Re: Eurokat 9
Guys, just a quick heads up, we were looking about for various crossings from Plymouth or Portsmouth and saved the details of available slots, went back to the site about 4 hours later and all bar one had gone!!
We are sailing from Portsmouth on 11th August 1745 to Santander returns Monday 17th 1515. Not ideal but our bad for delaying.
Good luck!!

1. 350m in one day is not my idea of fun. 2. with the money saved by NOT going on the ferry, you can get in a F1 and still buy gallons, sorry, litres of Calvados, Ricard and Liffe Blond et al. so i'm with Fossie.........just sayin'.

Re: Eurokat 9
Ok. So New Calender has the days marked in already!
Logical thing is to tie in with UB and Fred61 to sort preferred routes and dates. This time not required to go offshore on the Tuesday after, so have been doing some route plans (more guides, realy) for a return trip using D roads and the minimum of N’s and A’s.
Not got a preference for the run out there other than the lack of Motorways as above.
‘Course Fred61 will have to get the RED Pop Up going..........
....and I will probably be on Skruffy Kat as the 1000 is not likely to be done by then

Re: Eurokat 9
240 to 260 quid one way but the ferrys dont sail very frequently and your choice seems to be sunday tuesday or wednesday departures with a 24 hour journey to bilbao from portsmouth or a similar trip time from plymouth to santander.Uncle Bob wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2019 11:10 pmCorrected dates above to show the actual proper weekend (Fossie!)
As a travel option, JohnR elsewhere mentioned ferry to northern Spain then come up to the Dordogne over the Pyrenees (more like along the Pyrenees, as shame to miss some of those twisty roads!), which sounds like an interesting route and one I would be interested in. The prices from Brittany Ferries aren't released until Oct. so not sure what cost is yet.

Re: Eurokat 9
Green Card?
Do we need to get a Green Card before the summer?
Fossie, when are you next going over, can you test if you get in trouble
without 1 after the end of the month?

If we a no deal Brexit the end of the month then I would think you would, but they are free from insurance company aren't they? You will also need an international driving permit (IDP). If only going through France then you just need the 1968 IDP, but if going via other countries you may need a different one. At the moment it looks like Spain, Belgium and Holland you don't need a IDP for short stays.
Other interesting thing from the .gov website - "You will need a GB sticker even if you have a number plate with the Euro symbol and Great Britain national identifier." I did drive in France last year and it wasn't until I got home that I realised that the new car I bought earlier in the year didn't even have one on the numberplate, without issue, but really you don't want to give the Police an excuse to stop you, do you.
If there's a deal then it will probably be different! so we'll have to wait and see.

Re: Eurokat 9
As the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement has now been ratified, everything will remain the same until the end of December 2020.
Which is good news for me
