Speeding in France...

Post by SamK » Mon Aug 12, 2019 8:08 pm

Just discovered, the hard way, that if you get caught with a speed camera in France, they send the fine to the vehicle registered address...
and I was being so careful too

On the plus side, it was only 45€ and no points.

Really difficult at times in France now , because the speed limit is 80 km/h .....but some local authorites have decided to change it in their area back to 90 km/h , so the signage says 90 , but the legal law .. Is 80.... Gotta love the French!

Was notified by the car hire place, but nothing since.

Probably because you were going too slow...

I've been going through a 50 at 60 in Italy and still being overtaken or having someone blaring their horn at me to move out the way

The French incident was 94 in an 80, but they must have some wiggle room as it also says 'speed used: 89'
If it was signposted 90, as Fossie suggested, then I was riding along completely oblivious

As it was Italy, I'm surprised you didn't get a ticket for being too slow!

58000 people caught speeding in Italian village in 2 weeks!

I got caught speeding in France last year in my camper van,86kmh in a 80kmh. it was 5 months before I got the violation notice. Funny thing is I only seem to get caught speeding in my van, must be an age thing. :D

Speed camaras in France are clearly marked not in white vans though the Gandarms have Blue vans and pull you up there and then!
Camaras are grey point towards you and have a big sign just before them.....However many many many are now burnt out or covered in paint ....as a protest to the 80 km/h law....this makes it hard to know which are active ....so kinda doing the job better by accident!!
