Thanks all. Annoyed I am away from home and can't fiddle with the bike till Friday evening.
Having looked at MR2 lights it seems that they do not have a 'sidellight' aperture which I guess may cause MoT problems. I will have a read of the previous thread later today to see if this is covered. If there is a way forward then I would be game for a 50/50 effort on the eBay pair UB.
One other thing I forgot to ask: Is there a Haynes (or equiv) manual recommended for the bike?

If no parking light ( which is the correct terminology for this item....it isn't a side light ......)is fitted then it can't fail. remember this is a 30 year old bike so can only be tested as such.
Why do you really need to go through the hassle yet , get it registered , get it ridden, as for paint on the wheels there wasn't any from factory ......but it's your bike pink with yellow spots are ok if that is what you want'

I can vouch for that. Currently using the Crystal MR2 headlight unit with no sidelight. Using a Phillips Nightbreaker H4 (or whatever they are now). No mot issues and bright enough on main beam to encourage a Plod to remember to dip his lights last night!

And the news about the wheels is great news......I was not looking forward to cleaning AND masking the wheels, at least all I have to do now is clean them!

Back in the UK so I bunked off work early afternoon.
Bled both front and rear brakes and set off for the MoT. It passed with a bit of tape on the headlight for the LHD beam. Riding position felt a little better this afternoon, though the handling from the front felt funny (it felt a lot better once it had a more reasonable pressure in after they put some more in for me - it only had 14 psi in when I arrived).
Result, though the guys at my local MoT station said someone else that had ridden there without a number plate. He was followed in by some coppers and had to take it home in a van. Fortunately no coppers on my route there or back .
I'll get the V55/5 in the post first thing tomorrow morning.

'Tis true that most average coppers don't know the law reference unreg'd vehicles on import.
You can drive from port of import to MOT or garage without plate, as long as it is insured.
If you use trade plates which people think is the answer it doesn't comply as the vehicle hasn't been tested to comply to UK laws , so un plated is the only legal way........or transporter, but you don't have to.
Either way well done sir, all I would say is read the notes booklet first it is quite simple , but most sections are irrelevant so don't worry.

Well had an email from the DVLA today...........apparently the cheque I wrote wasn't for enough and I need to send them another one for £1.65! and it has to be a cheque, I can't pay over the phone annoyingly..
But there wasn't anything suggesting that I had messed up the form so hopefully that means I may have a Reg No soon

V5 arrived today so I nipped out to Halfrauds (the only place local open this evening) and sorted a number plate.
So first brief ride out and it seems to go OK , smooth through all the gears and idles well enough when warm. Handling was a little interesting so I came home to check the tyre pressures and they were both around 10psi low.
Not surprisingly it was better with the rightish pressures (need to do some research for pressures when cold with BT45s).
Lots of tinkering opportunities, but I figure I need to put some miles on it before fiddling too much to see what is 'wrong' before getting too into the fiddling.
