New to Katana's

Post by Irish Dave » Thu May 31, 2018 7:04 am

Hi, After 30 years of wanting a Katana I finally got one - unfortunately it is a proper barn find! All that's missing are chickens and straw!

Motor is solid - as in a solid lump of corrosion! forks rusted to beyond salvageable, wheels covered in corrosion, shocks mullered, frame covered in rust! Tank and fairing in good order though. Plans include a Bandit 1200 motor, USD forks and a mono-shock conversion - resto-mod direction.

However I am in need of a seat and tail unit - if there is anybody out there that has either or both of these taking up space I would be very happy to agree a price and take them off your hands!

For anybody restoring a 750Kat - I will eventually have wheels, engine - if it becomes salvageable after a complete strip and vapour blast, complete air box, brake calipers and who knows what else!

Regards,

David.

Well heellllo, welcome , seat and tail units do come up, but your not in a rush obviously.
The conversion you suggest has been carried out a few times on here so advice should be easier to source ...ha ha .

Would settle for a knackered seat with an intact base. Does anybody have a broken cowel - willing to resurrect one smashed almost beyond recognition!

Be careful ordering parts from Japan because they always come with some form of customs charge, I've ordered a Katana screen from webike in the past and although the price including shipping and the customs charge still came to less than buying one in the UK it was still an unexpected surprise (about 20% of the cost)

Pookie, thank you for the heads up, I will factor in when I am ordering. On a separate issue - how do I get to be a full paid up member of the club? I am unable to access the for sale pages and am worried that the very gems I am looking for may well be in there! Besides there are lots of bits I no longer have a use for and there may be folks out there scouring the land trying to find them?

Go to the main index page and click on 'the club' then you'll be taken to a page headed 'how to join the club'

Hey guy's - you are probably already aware but many parts no longer available in the UK are still available in Australia. I have just purchased a bran new Suzuki made tail piece for $225 AUD - I'm guessing circa £125. I also scored a second hand seat and a number of new seat related parts from Mick Hone Motorcycles, Victoria, Australia - contactable on imports@mickhone.com.au

Shipping isn't that terrible considering it's coming from Australia - $100 AUD - about £56. Obviously not what you want to do if you need a bolt - but if you just can't find that body panel......
