Alternative Pop-up Calipers?

Post by overbomber » Sat Aug 01, 2015 9:16 pm

Any suggestions for front calipers that would be a straight swop as an alternative to the dire brakes I've currently got on my pop-up? They were apparently refurbed and the master cylinder is of unknown origin but slowing down is a long and terrifying procedure so rather than dick around with the current set-up I'd like to replace everything with something with a bit more bite - I'd like to get the bike back on the road as a matter of urgency as its had little or no use recently due to work/life/stuff and it's nice to be able to come to a halt swiftly if you need to....

Well thanks for all that advice...anyway after a bit of jiggerypokery with tools and some swearing they appear to be working marginally better. Clearly the threat of replacement terrified them so much they decided to see sense and operate in a more sensible manner. Not amazing but definitely better.

That means you are a pioneer in this area and will be the font of all things popup front brakes for future generations...

...that or everyone is on holiday :-)

Glad you can stop better now. Is it easier to get the correct original parts (master cylinder) as I can't remember mine being that bad (though I did come from RD250's) so anything was else was great.
