thats a rare machine you own there, in two different ways. firstly, it must be rare, because every ebay advert for a 650 katana says theyre rare, so it must be true. but what makes yours doublly rare is that fossie hasnt owned it, which means its one of the few 650s on uk soil thats not spent some time in his shed! lol,

if youve stripped your sump, its probably better to swap it for a used sump from someone else in the club who has stacks of 650 bits in their shed, and whilst you are changine the sump, give the oil strainer pickup in the bottom of the engine a clean out, its often overlooked on these older bikes.
and yes, synthetic oil doesnt agree with these old machines, they like good thick gloopy old mineral oil in their cases, but you know that now dont you!
