NEW VEHICLE TAX RULES

Post by lomsavage » Wed Oct 29, 2014 1:27 pm

A quick heads up to folk,

most, like me would renew their vehicle tax a few days before it runs out, However this is no longer possible,

Tax on Vectra expires 31/10/14, i have just tried to renew and it wanted me to pay from 01 October , this is an outrage. i'm trying to be legal but it makes me renew at 0001 hrs 1st nov to be legal, i work shifts and unless i acess work comp for "personal use" i'm illegal

My car tax was due on 1st October, I got the reminder saying that from now on there will be no paper disc, went online 25th September and taxed it, no problems, I think that there is a seven day 'grace' period when you can still drive your car if its not taxed, I might have dreamt that though :)

The grace period was and is an urban myth, the was never a grace period, it was just that before ANPR it was nearly impossible for a copper to check...........so now definitely no grace period.

The new rules came in on 1st oct , so the 25 sept was as before.

You can renew 14 days before the due date WITH a reminder reference number from DVLA. As this is only issued to a veh that is taxed, the new tax with start from 1 of next month as a continuation.

The 'Grace Period' did exist, but was just misunderstood... it was for displaying the tax disc if it was bought before the old one expired. I suppose it was to cover delays in the post.
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new- ... r-tax-disc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So, since we longer have paper discs, this is irrelevant. :)
