Post by katanajak » Sat May 31, 2014 12:19 am

Any one know how many katana 1000 S were imported / sold in the UK ?
As rare as they are claimed to be today I remember seeing a lot back in the day .

according to the 'how many left?' website there were seven 1000sz katanas taxed and on the road in 2013, don't know how accurate these figures are as they state that there are only two 250s katanas taxed in Britain and I've got one of them!

The website that tells you how many left is next to useless...
It depends on the bike being logged on DVLA database correctly to start with, so if someone registers it as a GS1000s and it is a yank import it could be a Kat or an ice cream van!

The 1000 yank kat had CV carbs so like the 1100 really , no distinction on websiteas to UK model

In 1983 the GSX 250 ez was marketed here as a katana though it was a twin cyl and pre dates the GSX 250SSN katana.

Also it depends on it being taxed etc ..... so lay it up for a year and not mentioned .

Basically any web site is only as good as the info input.....

ultimatley does it matter how many are left .........unless someone is trying to bigup it's rarity to stump up prices!

Thanks Fossie,

I guess my question should have been how many did Suzuki import ?
think it was Heron Suzuki back then just wondering what the true number of UK Kat 1000"s
was.
I"ve owned my 1000 since 85 its an 83 but the VIN is GS10x ..............
The X is for model year 1981 so where it sat until it was registered in 83 its a uk model with slide carbs .
I brought it with me when I relocated to California

The truth would be no one knows, records are very vague in the 80's.
Heron were indeed the official importers, but they are/ were and are not part of Suzuki just a middleman who sell their machines to dealers, who like car dealers buy from them in bulk to get better discounts on the next batch... Hence having a81 bike with 83 plate.
I've had 2 UK 650 GX Kats one registered in 83 and one in 86.

Other importers may have brought in stuff in aswell. Different declarations about first reg appear on various log books.
