Headlight not working?

Post by Doc44 » Sun Oct 06, 2013 9:28 am

I have replaced the bulb and checked out the switch and connections so far but I need to check earth wires next. Any suggestions on which earths to check or any other ideas??
Cheers.

The connector to the lamp on the the back of the headlight is three way item. Assuming no mods there is a White wire, a Yellow wire and a Black/White

The white wire is Low beam
The Yellow is High beam

And the Black/White is the earth wire . This is connected to the earths for your direction indicators. If you have them fitted and they work then the earth to the battery is possibly OK.

The earth wire disappears into the loom and is often the cause of problems.
If you find that lights do strange things such as indicators coming on with headlamps , then it is probably an earth fault.

So you should be getting 12volts on the White and Yellow wires depending on the the dip/main switch position.

There is an earth connection to the electrical mounting plate that needs to be in good condition, as the earthing of the plate to the frame. There is a second earth point that is near the loom connection too the CDI.

All these need to be clean and corrosion free.

Hope this helps
