Anyone on here know much about puters ?I know a few bits and bobs but bit stumped on this one.

Got a pretty old Dell machine 2.6ghz 2 gig of ram XP OS and i am having trouble watching any kind of video on it. Its all jerky and the sounds is spluttery :(

CPU goes right up to 100% so its struggling to cope with it right? If i am just trawling the net it runs up and down but never gets very high cpu usage. Used to work ok :(

Stripped out any software i dont need. Checked the startup box in config.sys.

Just wondering if ggogle chrome is using more and more cpu power after upgrades etc?

Cheers

Pete

that's not a lot of memory tbh... may wanna check for damaged sectors on the HD too... if you did a clean re-installation of the OS that'll speed stuff up too.

Was thinking of a clean install tbh Steve. Memory seems to be ok when looking in task manager. Its the cpu thats working its nuts off :(

Might bite the bullet and reinstall.

Cheers guys. tried that program John. Found a few things but didnt help. I think its a hardware prob or like Mick says a graphics driver prob. Have nicked my lads computer which is a fairly new install and it works a whole load better. Can watch my video clips now ;)

Formatting the hard drive on the other one and trying a reinstall of windows to see if that works.

Thanks

Pete
