I'm looking for something to do ours with, although I'm a long way off yet, as I'm still removing layer upon layer of matt black. I've done the easily accessible bits now it's the tedium et bastardium of the fins etc.

I'm not a big fan of Smoothrite at all, having used it on the seat plate - if you brush it on it has to go on fagpaper thin else it will sag, and if you go that thin, it looks like there is hardly any pigment in it! Definately not as good as what it was 20 years ago (Like most things I am finding!).

I've applied to DVLA for a list of the previous keepers (to trace the bikes history) - but I'm sorely tempted to hunt down the muppet who caused me so much work! :-)

Think a soda blast is the way to go. Seen some good results with it.
