pop up electrics

Post by callyboy » Sat Feb 09, 2013 7:18 pm

Right. My pop up has never popped up :( - waits for funny comments.

Anyway, when i was stripping it down i noticed that the wiring had been butchered about. Lots of tape and dodgy connections. Had another look today and notised that what would appear to be the motor wiring has been taped up and not connected to anything   Looking at the loom, there would appear to be no block to connect it to anyway

Will have another look tomoz, but its going to be messy I think :(

Any ideas why this would have been done?

Pete

Sorry Pete, couldn't resist.
Just been rebuilding my loom, had the one from the bike and a spare I picked up, both heavily butchered in the past. Have chopped them up and made what I hope is one decentish loom.

No worries Andy - braced myself :)

I dont like electrics. Will see if i can find the colours from the motor plug in the loom somewhere.

When the black box goes wrong doesn't the light stay in the up position ?. my guess is the motor was disconected so it could be ridden with the light down.

Ok. Found the plug it goes into. Is there anything I can test/do to see if it works? was thinking off hooking it up to the battery.

Ok Pete.

I think the first place to start is to check the plug fits the black box, stay with me here!! There are 2 types and both will slot into each other but the pins are different spacings. Check the blank spaces are in the same place.

If that is as it should be. Connecting to a battery will do the job, however you need to know the power to the motor colour and the headlamp colour and join them together, because the power goes from the switch to the motor but when it reaches it's up position it transfers the power to the bulb. Down is reverse but a capicitor holds enough charge to power the motor down.

Now the colours are not in the Suzuki manual but I did draw them on the old site.
I actually have the diagram here but amnot able to get it uploaded on this site at the moment.

Yellow/black main beam indicator.
black/white earth
white dipped beam
yellow main beam
grey side light
red/yellow positive when lights on
Red /black power from ignition feed.
:? :( :o  :ugeek: :geek: :| Good luck
