Headlight compatability

Post by germankat » Thu Oct 20, 2011 7:54 pm

hi all, I am a new 1100 Katana owner, having wanted one for 30 years. I am currently in the process of bringing one back from Germany, a 2 owner 35000km very original bike. I live in Worthing, Sussex. So now to my question. The headlight? Is it generic to square light bikes of the time? ie Kawasaki gpz1100 (banana shape) or, is it unique to the Kat? Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers for any help provided. Adam. :?

Hi don`t know wheter its generic to other bikes of the same era but you can change it for a toyota mr 2 one , the replacement ones are lighter and give a better light than original kat and mr 2 ones. avaiable on that site item no. 170611385951 think the toyota hilux uses the same unit as well.
hope this helps

Legalally ( interesting spelling!) you don't have to change the headlamp, but a piece of tape will do as a deflector. But ideally as Nige says the MR2 has been used with great success.

Thanks guys, you have probably saved me a lot of hassle importing direct from Japan, a headlight for the next project. Is there a legal requirement for the side/parking light though?

Thanks guys for all the information, I shall take your advice and fit a MR2 lamp unit. I have submitted my membership dues so once I have a return letter hopefully I can participate more.

Hi Adam & welcome to another southern Kat owner.
Don't quote me on it but I seem to recall that the Bedford/Vauxhall Rascal does as well
