Carb Slides

Post by Kryten » Wed Oct 05, 2011 2:16 pm

I have been having a look at my carbs and have a question.

The original 32mm carbs that were fitted to the GS75X engine were heavily corroded and I obtained a set of alledgedly good 34's to go with the R701 engine now fitted.

The slides are coated in a black coloured substance that did not seem to be affected by ultra-sonic cleaning. But it shows signs of wearing away. And light scraping with a thumb nail will remove it revealing clean alloy underneath.

Here are a couple of photos to show what it looks like:

Has anybody seen this in the past? Should I clean it all off? Or should I use a spare set of slides and diaphragms instead?

Obviously the slides form the 32's wont fit. Plus if I use spare slides, what needles should I use?

Cheers
Jim

That looks like what they call carb varnish Jim(google it). Try some carb cleaner on it.
