Yep push horn to play tune and flick the back of switch to illuminate the world . 8-)

You have joined your earth wire to an indicator warning side of the loom.
Both front indicators go to the double earth spade , don't join another to it while an indicator is joined .
The earth along side the brown wire is sidelight, don't use that one for the wires from the switch gear/ binnicle ( manual calls it . we idiot lights!) :P

CHECK THE EARTHS. :D

Its pushing the indicator/hi low switch down............or is it up!

Or as H says.... if you have the earlier GS switches............the pass light is on the Horn button but instead of pushing it..............you pull it! ;)

You'll be used to pulling it Pete m8..............wont you?

Shut up Rob ! ;)

Right had another look and used my multimeter to see what was going on. checked all connections(earth as well !!!) and all looks fine.

Right, this is what i think is happening:

The flash/pass light works fine - both on high beam and flash/pass switch.

The main beam works fine.

The side lights look fine.

I have not used the double earth connection for the lights (just the indicators).

I have not used the earth from the sidelight.

OK so when i check the voltage on the highbeam wire i can see 10+ volts going to it when i press flash or put the high beam switch on. The high beam warning bulb works fine when on high beam or flash.

BUT....................why do i get about 4-5 volts going from the headlight bulb up the high beam wire when i switch on the normal headlamp ? this is what is lighting up the high beam warning light -albeit very dimly. I THINK ! - This is what john said to check and i assume that there should NOT be any voltage going to the high beam when not on !!!!!!! :x :x :x not enough to light the high beam filament, but enough to light the high beam warning light ? Sorry, this prob sounds very confusing.

Any ideas ?

electricity is lazy. it has to go from the +ve side of the battery to the -ve side. if one of your earths is dirty, corroded or just crap, it will go the easiest way it can find, this can often be the wrong way up another wire till it gets to earth. try temporarily running a wire from the negative battery terminal straight to your headlamp bulb connectors earth, and unplug that earth from the loom. if the lamp goes out and you dont get the backfeed, then theres your problem. i assume the 3 connections onto the headlight bulb are all in the right places?

Watcha H, I did give it a quick squirt with some electrical connector spray. I dont think its the switch, but then electrickery is a mystery to me at the best of times :(

Also (and i think this is the crux of the matter)......when i pull the high beam wire OFF the headlight bulb....the dim high beam warning light goes away !!!! the warning light will still light up correctly when high beam is switched on or flashed (although of course, the headlamp will not light up).

I think i may just live with a nice but dim high beam warning light being on.
