Kat 1000 Tank Decals

Post by Richiemouse » Fri Sep 09, 2011 10:13 pm

This probably goes for SZ or early 1100's as well, were the SUZUKI tank decals lacquered in or were they sat on top? The guy painting my tank thinks the tank is original paint (I thought it had been re-painted at some point) in which case the decals are applied over the lacquer. He reckons the decals are original becasue they are ever so slightly rounded whereas the replacement ones I sourced have sharp cut edges.

Come on bobster, your tank must be original, decals under or on top of clear coat? :D

Thanks dude. My painter has concerns due to the thickness of the decals, he's the expert so I'm probably going to go with his advice. What I was interested in was whether the original decals were under or over the lacquer as he thinks my tank is in original paint, in which case they were over. I'm not going to get that anal over it, just curious.

drop russbusa a pm and see whats what. i know he can get pretty much any decal you need cut and he's well in the knowledge on colours/thicknesses etc. you can also still get the originals from robinsons too so that opens up a whole new world of possibilities...

if the ones you have are too thick then i'm sure thinner ones are easily produced by those in the know ;)

I got my decals from imageworks a few years ago if im not mistaken for about £24 for the complete set!But dont quote me on that! i have a goldfish memory!

That was the 2x tank, 2 xz side panels stickers , choke knob stickers and the 6 black strips for the side panels!

Originally the Suzuki was OVER the lacquer.
I have a couple of original 650's so original that even some of the grime is 30 years old probably !
So checked tonight and I can pick at the decal!

Thanks fossie, that's exactly what I wanted to know. I feel happier now to let the painter do what he thinks is right, knowing it was done like that originally anyway.

i bought a brand new 1100 tank from suzuki about 12 years ago, i was expecting it to come bare or in primer, and was surprised that it came painted in 13l and had the decal on it, and the decal was laquered over. perhaps they corrected the faults on the 1100 that they first made on the 650!!!
