Boys make room for Auntie Elsie

Post by katanajak » Sun Oct 17, 2021 11:57 pm

So its not exactly Katana related but my search for a RD350LC is over, been looking for one for some time not the easiest bike to find in the states, Plenty of powervalves, Original LC's not so much
Found it in British Columbia had it shipped to Southern California.
Original owner 14000 km, Un molested sat in a barn for I don't know how long. It starts and runs everything works, tires look like they are ready to leave this world so not going to chance a test ride.
I had a 250 when I was 17 back in the UK now 40 years later it's a bucket list thing . Looks good next to the Katana 2 of the great bikes from the 80's
Let the restoration begin.

Very nice, don't know what i'm more jealous of, the bike or the weather! strangely my 250 Kat was my bucket list bike, looked for one for ages before purchase, I remember visiting a shop in Guilford Surrey in the early 1990's called pocket rockets, they had the single swing arm H**da Nsr250rr, Yamaha Tzr250 reverse cylinder and more two stroke loveliness, but I fell for the 250 Katana, and unlike some dream machines that disappoint when you ride or drive them the little Katana is fun with a capital F, enjoy your Lc

I had a 250LC at about that time as well, which I was production racing. My particular bike was a factory demonstrator which was loaned to Motorcycle News, and was in a big feature by them at the time, then converted for racing.

Great bikes.

LC looks lovely, even in current condition - I've got an X7 arriving sometime soon. I've never grown out of 2-strokes - my sister is an eco-warrior and when she was staying in the summer she watched me leave for a ride on my little GT80 in a cloud of smoke with a look of despair!

Looks in really good condition.
Simpson lid as well, proper hooligan :D
Thanks Blix,
Its in decent shape needs a sympathetic restoration I'm not going to do a green bolt ground up rebuild. Mainly accumulated dirt and a not so great maintenance schedule mechanically it's all there 100% original not the easiest find.
The Simpson is my original got it from Demon tweeks back in the day when they were
"Illegal` in the UK! . Got it when I got my katana many moons ago.Went to Simpson world west got me a new one nicest people you could wish to meet they even took me to their "museum " of famed helmets ,some of which looked like they'd been through some nasty accidents but the wearers survived . All thanks to Bill Simpson.

Ah good times,
Used to go to Mallory Park, Cadwell and Donnington, watch the racing oh the battles between bikes tuned by Terry Beckett and Sten Stephen's.

Thanks uncle Bob,
Love the X7 if I could get one with microns that would make my hooligan day......I too have never outgrown 2 strokes which here in California is enough to make the tree huggers head spin
I can't wait to ride the LC up to a tesla or prius driver and give them the blue smoke

I only raced at Brands Hatch Indy & GP, and Snetterton. I was closest to those two and never really wanted to travel any further.

Mine was tuned for racing when I got it, then I got it rebuilt by Beeline, who were close to me, and were building bikes for a lot of the frontrunners at the time. It never made me a frontrunner though, I think they must have been holding back a bit to make their riders look better....

Passed my bike test in 1982 on a H**da 250 superdream, since then i've never owned a bike over 250cc! got the little Katana and a Kawasaki kr1 that i've owned from new, don't worry katanajak the tree huggers are everywhere, my bikes don't qualify for the new 'London ultra low emmision zone' which starts just a couple of miles from the top of my road, and these zones will only get bigger and more prolific, i'll just have to look at my bikes when that happens!

Small two strokes are ace through the twisty bends, might be the way I ride my Kr-1 but even though it's only covered 15000 miles it's on its original pistons and even the original chain and sprockets!
