Which oil? Brand? Type?
It's faster to break than to repair.

Haynes claim this one will cover the GSX1000SZ

It does have an Effy on the front though.

Mac13, where do you live? If you are anywhere near Preston, I can come round. Socially distanced, with mask and recent negative Covid test!

Cheers Kryton.

Lexdba, The oil I used is 10W 40 - Motul semi-synthetic.

Mulling the problem I am just hoping the problem turns out to be something totally stupid and I would not like to admit to it! I do not what would be worse, not fixing the bike or having to admit that I am a total numpty?
Cheers Boys

We've all had times when we can't solve a problem. Doesn't mean you're a numpty.

Hi All,
Sorrybother you again. The update is; I have changed the pressure plate and put the clutch back together. Adjusted clutch cable etc and the bike is still the same in that, start the bike, clutch in, and into first. The bike immediately stalls. Pup bike on the center stand, start the bike, clutch in, and into first gear. Can feel the back wheel being driven, try to stop the back wheel spinning, and again the engine will stall.
I am at a total loss now as to what to try next. Any suggestions appreciated.
Cheers

Mac - I thought you had set fire to it! I think it's time to get a real mechanic involved, otherwise this is going to drive you mad. Or, at the very least, get someone else to have a look to make sure you haven't missed something.

Hi Smallkat,
Take a look outside you will see the black smoke.
I do not want to let this problem beat me but just cannot see what I have missed? My next post may be "does anyone want to buy a katana"?
Cheers buddy

Hi Mac.

Was wondering how you got on.

If the bike is in one piece, try my suggestion about adjusting the cable.

With the bike up on the centre stand, engine running and in gear. Keep adjusting the cable at the bottom end. This will obviously take up any slack in the cable. But hopefully you will get to the point where the pulling the clutch lever will release the clutch so that you can stop the wheel turning without stalling the engine.
This will prove that the clutch will operate, and that the issue is with either cable or actuator.
Clearly you will not be able to use the bike like that, as the clutch release bearing will be loaded continuously and fail.
If you cannot get the clutch to release then the problem is likely to be in the clutch assembly.

Good luck!
