MOT time

Took Beelzebitch for it’s MOT today and she passed with flying colours
However.............
apparently the rules have changed and there are now rigorous paperwork checks in place. I thought it was odd when I was asked to bring both my logbook and previous MOT certificate in with me?
The MOT tester is the same guy I’ve used for years and we’ve got to know one another very well. He started the test and immediately found a paperwork discrepancy! the frame number didn’t match the last MOT which he issued? It turns out that all the previous tests where done using the engine number
Checking the V5 the frame and engine numbers are correct, phew although I checked the details when I bought the bike I started to doubt myself. Heart attack avoided

It's a good job they did match otherwise it was his name on the certificate and it would have flagged up....... He was just as relieved I'll bet.

The daft thing is, I’ve got all the MOT’s from when the bike was imported and they’ve all used the engine engine number?

Odd...I took mine over last week for the mot, and no one mentioned anything about bringing old mot or logbook?
Still, only one more year to go then won't have to worry any more.
Was talking to the bloke who does mine, and he said he has concerns over some of the bikes that get brought in for a test becoming exempt...not everyone it seems keeps classic bikes as well maintained....
He thought annual basic safety check would be a better idea for old vehicles, just to make sure people were safe.
Judging by some of the bodges I've seen on bikes over the years, it's not and idea!

Exactly! which is why the panic alarm went off when he told me the frame number was wrong
It looks like the first MOT was done wrong and the following ones have just copied the details off the certificate and not bothered actually checking the frame itself. As fossie said if I had been stopped it would have been the tester for the high jump

The engine is really irrelevant in paperwork terms , but again with imports DVLA just copy what is on the form , in most cases the frame number on a bike is inaccessible , so old paperwork is used....not correct but ....
As for MOTs over 40 years old ...dosen't make any sense from a safety point of view , I'm not going to complain but really it is really dodgy .....I mean come on I can bodge it so it passes , but at least I make it so ....no test why would I bother .....don't get me wrong my bikes are always roadworthy , I carry a pillion so why wouldn't I make sure , but not everyone will be able to make sure for knowledge or financial reasons.

MOT Nah! You can get it done voluntary though ...

I was in Llangollen on Sunday to meet up with a few like minded old gits had a wonder around looking at bikes as you do and being honest looking at the state of some bikes especially the old brits the owners shouldn’t be allowed near a spanner. It doesn’t bear thinking about people riding around on death traps
