my two pennorth, some insurance companies will allow repair with used parts, i know that carol nash will, cos ive been down this road before, pretty much any suzuki coil from the 1980s and 90s will fit on the bike. and as for dyna coils, they have their terminals exposed dont they, with the wires connected using just screws, any chance they could have been earthed by something. i once had a misfire on my kat, after a lucky break trying to trace it (it went dark, you'll realise when you read on) i found that the coils ht leads were earthing against the underside of the tank. this problem dogged me for weeks until i took the tank off for the umpeenth time , but thisn time at dusk, as i did so i spotted the coil sparking against the tank bottom, it only did it when the tank was full and the weight pressed the tank onto its rubber mounts enough to touch it aghainst the ht coil. the dynas are a bit fatter than the stock ones so you need to take care when fitting them.
finally, what would we say would be the goping rate for a new wiring loom? ive wondered about making a batch up, but to use the correct colours and connectors has always worked out incredibly expensive, but if there arent any more being made and all ours are aging, is it worth pricing up to make some? i reccon i would need to be able to sell over a dozen to make back the costs of doing one for an sz?
finally, it sounds like you were bloody lucky, but before you strip it, heed the advice about gloves for fire damaged bikes, google hydroflouric acid to read just how nasty this stuff is.
