650 katana exhaust and seat?

Post by Doc44 » Mon Jun 10, 2013 7:50 pm

Hello all,
Just joined as I've just purchased a 650 katana in need of TLC which would include a new exhaust and a seat base. What are the options here, I mean how easy is it to find these parts? I would prefer used parts to keep the cost down a bit.
Any ideas or advice??
Cheers.

Hi Doc, welcome to the Forum!

Depends on what model 650 Kat you have, because depending on if the bike is a pukka UK bike or an Import will determine what seat you'll need. The UK bikes had a slightly longer seat than the Imports, so you'll need to find out what bike you have.If it has an oil cooler its prob a UK bike!
As for exhausts, you will struggle to find a standard system..........so an after market exhaust will be you only other option. Motad or maybe a Lazer, Marshall deeptone, or Harris 4-1. You can still buy some new.............and also second hand on ebay!

I Might Know someone with a Orange and black replica seat ;)

Thanks for your reply bobster.
My bike is a UK model I think as it has an oil cooler and no anti dive forks.
I only managed to find new Marshall systems online for about £240, where can you find the other ones? May well be tempted to splash out on a Harris.
Not sure if I need a complete seat, how much would this one be going for?

The Marshall is the best of the bunch , Harris ain!t Harris anymore Motad are ok but please avoid water underneath or the kit kat wrappers that they use for plating will peel off the collector box.

No anti just means the model you have is a GS 650 GX.
The metal seats are prone to rust along the rim and front especially on the left due to side stand and rain.
They are long since unobtainable, but we as a club had some fibre glass ones made now all sold Bobster got the last one I believe.
I can get another run made but the bases are £80 then you will need to cover it using your foam which is about £80 . These prices are to club members by the way and the best and cheapest we could do them also cheaper than most clubs do seats .
Sound angel of doom but trying to realistic here , most people on here would know I have a love of the 650 and just want to see them all back on the road where hey belong.

Thanks for the info fossie. The cost of the seat base and covering it would come to more than I paid for the whole bike! Think I will make do with what I have for now and just buy the essentials, basically the service items and odds and ends.
I have a Marshall pipe already which is very rusty but fixable.
