Hi all, following low compression readings (2&4) I pulled the head off to commence inspection.. valves are caked in soot, but the elephant in the room appears to be what feels/looks like a fracture/crack on number 2... it can be felt when running a thumbnail across it.. I fear it may well be game over for the head
I would appreciate you thoughts

Just for interest sake what is the reg of the bike ....it may be one we know about ...
Now expensive but it's got to worth a cheeky phone call to ask if you can get it at a more reasonable price , as they will have had it a while ..

That second engine is number K718, but mine is K711. It looks the same, but mine doesn't have a cover over the starter motor. Presumably to make it quicker to swap the starter out

Andy, if you do get a new engine, would you consider selling me your engine covers?

Hi Smallkat, certainly, yes... I`m still deciding on whether to rebuild this mill, working on the premise that the line is indeed not a crack... I do need a head gasket, obviously, and I have been reliably informed you are the very fellow I need to speak to!!...
I`ve had no joy with Fowler`s nor Robinson`s Foundry.. is it possible that you can point me in the right direction>?

the registration is L269PSC, I believe it`s been a local bike (county Durham) for a good few years but I would be grateful for a wee bit more history!

Go on the dvla mot history website to see the bikes mot history, it looks like it ran out in 2010 ! and in 2009 failed on some bizzare things, who takes a bike for an mot with loose handlebar grips and no working front indicators ?

It's a route that I might use as I have a couple of other bikes that will be hard to find for.

I assume they work on water cooled as some water cooled 2 stokes had similar as standard.

you should see some of the dross that I see when looking for stock to dismantle....!!!

Hi Bob, that is an option to have one cut on my oppo`s laser cutter and keeping it mind... I may need to think about a skim of the head due that "line" on number two. or I opt for another mill or shove something naughty in!!...I regretfully have had to shelve it for the moment as ain`t making any money when I`m preparing to flush it down the SSN whole!!!... admittedly, the purchase of was a view to dismantling and selling as spares.. In stead of this I have sentenced the bike to the corner of my lock up to think about it`s actions
