Last weekend I had occasion to start the fleet ;) no dramas ( except 1x pop up ...but hey the carbs are in another town so it wasn't expected to start...)
My 650/1100 jobbie merrily ticked over but when revved cut out ...hmmm started straight away ...wouldn't Rev....grrrrr, :( On looking over the bike , there was 1/2 gallon of petrol on the floor ...oooooh :? :roll:
This weekend ..carbs off , obviously expecting debris in the float bowls ...rust ...gunge petrol ..the list was endless in my mind...All came off no issues , float bowls off ...spotless :? Tank filter ..spotless...mmmm check floats and needless ...spotless.... :? But number 2 float stuck at a certain point ...changed it with a spare float checked heights, all good ....it can't be that easy can it? :?
Started straight away ticked over revved cleanly ...it was that easy! ;)
HOWEVER , obviously I hadn't spent enough time on her( it must be a female) the clutch won't release the drive in gear....it did before all I did was undo the cable to do the carbs!
It was strangely routed by the previous keeper , so I routed it correctly,. The same ..on off on off ...you know how it goes ....finally looked in the spare cables and yep a 650 clutch...too long as they are now generic and the GL model( with ape bars ) covers all, so wasn't holding out much hope :x
No it worked straight away despite this cable being in storage for at least 12 years ..
WHY ? :evil: HOW can a cable that worked, shows no signs off damage ,slides easily, and is shorter ..as in correct part for GX not disengage the drive no matter how tight it was tensioned up! :roll:

You’ve already answered the question Fos, they’re all female our bikes and anything mechanical :lol:
I had a prospective buyer come to look at Beelzebitch the other day. Now bearing in mind she was out for a 150 odd mile trip two days previous I wasn’t expecting any issues. But the old cow had other ideas?
She fired up instantly on the button as normal but didn’t sound quite right. The guy obviously wasn’t the usual nugget as he picked up on it immediately. He did the old touch the down pipe with spitted on hands trick and proclaimed number four wasn’t running properly. Looking in the tank revealed virtually no fuel so with a sigh of relief that seemed to clear the problem up and he agreed that was all that was wrong. He’s going to get back to me re the sale :roll:
HOWEVER, just to be sure I put some fresh fuel in the tank and lo & behold it still wasn’t right! Thinking of blocked carbs I whipped the tank off to find the vacuum pipe was bent at 90deg!
How has that happened when the tank hasn’t been off the bike for months?
Bloody females :lol:
There rubbish them Jap bikes lad they won't last five minutes! you want to get yourself a nice Royal Enfield!
