GZ 650 Katana Ignition Switch

The ignition switch (I mean the bit where you put the key in) has become worn and needs replacing.
Not being particularly mechanically minded, has anyone done this before? What bits, if any, need removing before the switch can be accessed and removed? Where is it attached?
Thanks in advance.

The simplest answer is put the key on a coiled key ring attach one end to the key the other end to your jacket or mirror arm , or somewhere ....well that's my preferred method .....each bike has a different coloured one . Try a newer key first before you get involved . ;)

BUT ..first remove headlamp glass...3x Phillips screws on side in chrome ring.
Remove 2x 12mm bolts that hold headlamp to the mounting brackets on the side ...it will just droop down because the wires inside are still connected.
This gives access to the 2x Allen bolts that hold the ignition barrel on to the top yoke ..(underside)
Follow orange , brown , red , wires back to inside the h/lamp to the green block connector. Disconnect and its in your hand .
A replacement can be sourced aftermarket for £20ish quid ( average) but you'll end up with 2 keys , if that kinda thing bothers you.
Obviously rebuild in reverse order.

Thanks Fossie. Will give it a go.
Didn't think to try a new key. Will attempt that first!
