650 Oil Capacity - Dry fill

Any ideas please?

It's had just over 3 litres, which took it to just over the full line on the sight glass. Cranked it over on the button without starting, to fill various bits up, and left for circa 90 minutes to drain back to the sump - And it's just below the minimum line!

The book says 2.5L, which I'm assuming is for a straight drop and refill. Ours has been completely drained, new filter and fresh oil (after initial running up).

I'll leave it overnight and see what gives, as I appreciate the oil is cold and thick and may take longer to drain down to the sump than hot stuff.

Cheers,

J

3.75 in reality , it will drop because you need to fill the gearbox/ shaft area.
The 2.5 is left over from the crankcases when it was a 550 bottom end.

Yes, after an oil change and first starting the engine for a minute or so, the oil level drops a lot as it fills the gearbox etc. You have to make sure to add more at this point.
Also note there are two drain plugs.

Yes, I did notice the extra drain plug on the side of the sump.....

Does this serve any real purpose? or can all the oil be dropped through the "normal" plug?

You need to drain both plugs as the gearbox is higher than the sump.

That's noted for future reference!
