Carbs 816 kit

I'm finally getting close to getting my 750 gimbelcorse project together, but stupidly was tempted by a 816 kit (barrells and pistons) Part of me thinks 'leave it on the shelf and get the b***dy thing finished' and the other thinks 'if I don't do it now I never will'. Before I decide...

Can the top end be reasonably easily changed without taking the engine out? (I know I should have done it when it was out, but I didn't have the kit then)

I know its only a small increase in capacity, but will my newly shiny refurbished standard carbs be adequate? I've got some 34s, but they'll need a total refurb (ie cash and time I'd rather not spend)

Any idea roughly how much it would be to get the head ported/polished etc?

I know it would be simpler to fit an 1100, but I like to be different, and this is supposed to be slowing me down (my road bike is a modified ZX12, sorry  )

Thanks in advance

Liam

Not sure about precise details, but I know of a 750 Kat that has +1mm over size pistons. That gives it 770cc
He has a flowed head on it running K&N filters and a V&H exhaust.
As far as I'm aware he is using the BS32's re-jetted more for the filters.
Performance wise it goes pretty we'll. Certainly well enough for someone riding an R1 to comment "That goes well for an old thousand"

The down side of the mods are that it takes a little bit of cranking when the weather is cold to fire it up.

You are right that it would be easier to have fitted it out of the frame. But it is not so difficult.

Of course if you decide not to use the kit, you know how to contact me! :D 8-)

You don't have to take the engine out for taking off the head and barrels.

You have PM ;)

Just use the 32's.

The Kat isn't good at top end speed but they do launch of the line well  R1's are too short the buggers shut the throttle down too soon & if you not carefull you run into the back of them.

I enjoy upsetting the plastic bikes with my less than shinny 820.

Steve

I'd be interested to see what are good mods for a 750 as well. I have Skruffy Kats old GS75X engine sitting in the shed, as I got hold of a clean R701 engine. This is in the Kat now, but I fancy putting the original engine back in it's frame at some time, just need some shiny bits to make it compete with my mates 770 ;)

I've kept it quite quiet up til now but I'm building a '750' that'll be a bit bigger. I'm saying no more.
When it's a bit further along I'll do a build thread. That way if it goes bang then I'll...ahem...misplace the details ;) :D :D
