Cleaning Carb bowl Starter passages

In a previous post I mentioned that I had some starting issues and FJR and Bobster thought that I probably needed to clean the passages in the float bowl(s) which relate to the starting system.

Any advice on what's the best way to do that at home? It's hard enough to see down the hole let alone clean! Also the brass thingy that goes down into that hole - does that block or not?

Carb cleaner and compressed airline...............if still blocked use a fine piece of wire to unblock.

You'll know if its blocked when you squirt carb cleaner down the tube......................

ultrasonic cleaner. get a cheap jewelery one from ebay for under 20 quid and strip the carbs and do the bits individually. it will pay for itself. but gets addictive, you end up cleaning everything you can get in it!!

I bought an ultrasonic cleaner from Aldi the other week.................it was in the reduced to clear section for £10.

What cleaning solution and what ratio do you use in your cleaner John?

I can see myself spending on some more kit now...

Some advice on size would be handy - does yours fit the carbs bodies / bowls or just the jets etc? What capacity was it? Can't get one as cheap as Bobster, but..

Maybe overkill for how much I might use it, but I can stick through my company and save the VAT

Anyway on Bobster question of cleaning fluid Maplin do Seaclean 2 enviro. friendly cleaner (different sized packs but here is the 5l version. Saw that recommended on another site:

i use fairy liquid in mine, but if its tough stuff, get some traffic film remover (tfr) and dilute it to the makers spec. mine is a 15 litre one with a heater. it shifts stuff better when its hot.

be very very careful with petseal. ordinary petseal isnt any use for petrol, only diesel, petseal ultra is supposedly for ethanol mix fuels, its claimed to be for upto 10% ethanol, but the ultra lining in my bsa tank is flaking off after 3 years, so id steer clear, and ive reccomended petseal myself in the past. currently im waiting for the time to use a frost kit ive just bought for my triumph, its por15, not sure if its any better, i will let you know.
