So all my bits are getting collecting for powder coating tomorrow. And for the life of me I cant get the fork lowers off. The bolt at the bottom is free. Fossie has said I need to put a long allen key down to hold but I cant see how I would get anything down that far. Its not the end of the world if they dont go as can paint them myself. But they have to split to take the stantions out which need changing.

I just had that fun last month. After trying the broom handle technique and failing, I finally decided to buy the Suzuki "tool" and long T handle (for probably too much but what the hell). For years I've struggled with those so finally no more!

The "tool" is a square based pyramid shaped thing with a 3/8th socket connector - it just wedges in the top of the damper rod. Crude but works - I can take some photos if you like.

Tool 1 is just a long T handle (approx 51cm) with a 3/8th drive on end.
Tool 2 is the main bit - the 3.5cm "spike" has 4 sides and it has the 3/8th socket 2 attach the T handle too.

I would have thought the damper rod would have a square hole in the end for the "spike" to locate in, but it's just round - you just have to use a bit of pressure to stop it turning - like I said, crude really. This is why quite a lot of people have had success with chamfered broom handles - I tried this but not knowing what the thing look liked it wasn't small enough. Hope that helps.
