If i ever pull my finger out and get that damn engine ready, I need to paint it sometime. Any body recommend a good paint? PJ1 satin isnt around anymore and I only have a little bit left over from the 550. Rattle can or brush?

I have some Hi-Cote that I am going to be using for my pop engine. Its a gloss black enamel. So should come out super shinyI hope

I got some of that Techcote stuff that Steve linked to. I got Satin Black. If i ever get around to doing it, I will let you know if it is any good Would have used PJ1 if i could get hold of any at a reasonable price.

PJ1 at a reasonable price....thats the key phrase! A can of Pj1 satin balck went for £26 on ebay last week.Would be interested to hear how the Techcote looks as I will be needing some soon.

Will let you know. I am HOPING to at least get the engine ready for paint this weekend. I will have to wait for the weather to warm up though to spray it. Too cold at the moment.

it's a daunting task prepping an engine... lol - but when warm is the best option. sooooo, spend an hour here and there and work away at it. no need to spend a full weekend doing it and be wanting to stick needles in yer eyes at the end of it.... or have a bad back for the next week due to all the bending over you've done. use wet n dry on a strip of wood to bet on the fins, narrow wire brush attachments to get off the thicker paint, paint stripper for anywhere it won't damage any seals etc. do it bit by bit and you won't notice it as much. no need for the motor to go in first so there's more than enough time to do it between all the other work that'll need sorting anyway. it'll never be 100% unless it's stripped and dipped so don't beat yourself up over it imo... will still look good with a decent amount of prep
