help

Hi all. Gutted. Just fitted a rock to flo kat when disaster struck. Just pulled threads of top shock mount. Anyone done it? If so what ya do to fix it? Tap and die ?

not what you want to hear, but i built it up with silver solder and then cut a thread on it/ as a temp measure you could put a hole through the nut and shock mount and secure it with a split pin.

hapened to me once drilled a hole in end of the stud and nut then used a self tapper through both

Devcon chemical metal, good temp repair did it on mine few years ago before the rebuild, then did it properly, replaced stud.

Ham fisted fekker......... ;)


Weld up the damaged stub, grind back to tapping size and then re-tap the thread, think the thread is M10x1.25 pitch.

And then get some shorter spanners!

Or :idea: ....................you could get an 8mm Timecert and fit that to the damaged stub after re-tapping the stub to 8mm and then the outer thread will be back to M10.................but you'd have to fit a couple more washers and file off the shoulder on the timecert.

Think that would work!

Or :idea: Tap the damaged thread to 8mm and fit the 8mm time sert inside the dome nut, using some high strength loktite..........that would also work....but you'd always have to use the modded nut on the smaller thread!

I like that idea. Will spend some wedge tomorrow on a tap n die set
