Ikon Shocks question

Post by Richiemouse » Mon Oct 17, 2011 8:06 pm

I've got a set of Ikon schocks that I've had for ages and was going to use on the thou. They supposedly came off an 1100 Kat and I've checked the ID numbers and they seem to be the correct fitment for a big Kat but I don't think I've got all the bits. With each shock I've got two rubber bushes with different diameter holes. My problem is that the hole through the shock top mount is larger than the Kat shock fitting stud so it's a loose fit, I'd expect it to be an exact fit. I can't see how the two rubber bushes are used, the one with the hole the same size as the shock mount is thinner and the other, taller one, has a hole that fits the kat shock stud. But if I put both bushes on and the shock all the thread is covered on the fitting stud! Am i missing something, or some bits maybe? :?

not sure. ive a set of konis (same shock, but older) and they came with the correct bushes. yours looks to have a bonded in bush so i wouldnt remove that, rather id make or aquire a metal bush to take up the slack between the mount and the existing bush.

John/Steve, thanks. There must have been some sort of insert originally if they were fitted to an 11, either that or it was an evil handling thing! I'm just bemused by what I've got. Actually it wouldn't surprise me if the ID number is the basic shock and depending on what it's being fitted to it should come with different top bushes. I'll try Norman Hyde tomorrow and see what they say.

It's annoying as I thought the only thing I needed to get it mobile now was an exhaust, which I'm still going to struggle with as I've run out of funds. I was hoping to use these until I could replace them.

John, that's a question. It's an odd build in that it's all original (bar powder coat & paint obviously) except for the shocks and the exhaust. I do have a standard system but it's not pretty. I was never all that with the original shocks on my last 11 so was hoping these might be a bit better. However, I might be interested if it's going to be a pain to fit these, what sort of condition are they in?

If the number is something like 7210 then that's the generic model number for those shocks mate.

I'm fairly sure that like Hagon's you can drift out the bung and collar to put in the correct fitment (but I might be wrong and it's just that I hit things with a biiiig hammer ;) :D ).

Ha, my mistake, the shocks are actually older than I though, they are the orginal Koni's. Anyway Norman Hyde chaps very helpful on the phone yesterday pm and this morning received the two spacers that sleeve the top mounting eye down from 14mm to 12mm to fit the Kat mount. Big thumbs up for Norman Hyde.
