1100SZ Modification Advice Please?
Hello all.
I would like to run more modern wheels, tyres and suspension on my 1100. I want stuff that will slot in without making mods to anything original if possible, so I can put it back to original if needed.
What's the best stuff to get? Where from? What sort of money? How easy is it to do? My bike is standard apart from exhaust and a pair of Astralites. What are the benefits of fitting electronic ignition - Dyna S?
Any help and advice would be much appreciated.
My Kat has been unused for 18 months due to a new baby. I've just sold some bits on Eeeebay and got more for them than I expected so I want to treat the Kat to summat nice.
Also - who is it on here that recovers seats? I've a spare that I'd like doing in the proper colours.
Thanks everyone.
Evan

Hi for the seat use stevea. He is in northampton. As for mods is easy to fit a 600 bandit back wheel to the stock swing ARM. I fitted a bandit twelve front end to my wifes kat. You will need to fit a kat stem to the bandit yoke and sort out lock stops. The dynas ignitions are very good not much of a benefit over stock in my opinion.

if you arent doing anything else to the motor, dyna s is a bit of a waste of cash. stock electronic ignition is ok. plenty of folk running bandit gear on their big kats.

Thanks very much for the info. I will start having a look for Bandit bits on that auction site. I've seen the pics of your wife's (FBJ) Kat and love the look of it - didn't know what the wheels were off though.
Is it best to PM Stevea through here about the seat?
How many teeth are on the standard front and rear sprockets? As my bike has none standard wheels I don't know if the sprockets are the original sizes. I would like to increase acceleration (not bothered about top end). For example - what size chain and sprockets would you run on a standard bike with Bandit wheels?
Part of the reason I'm doing this is that I was going to buy another bike to play with, as my Kat is a bit scruffy and sitting at the back of the garage under a sheet following an accident a couple of years ago. My wife has convinced me to dig out the Kat and spend the money on that instead. She's good really...
I'm a below average standard mechanic but I'm happy and willing to do whatever is needed to get the bike back to a standard I'm proud of again. Luckily the bodywork is in great condition and the engine has just 16000 genuine miles on.
Thanks for your time. I did pay to join the club 18 months or so ago and I plan to renew now. Hopefully I'll get to meet some of you sometime.
Cheers

Re: 1100SZ Modification Advice Please?
Hello Evan. With regards to stevea u can pm him through here or oss. Oldskoolsuzuki.info. he also has a website called lucky7 I think. My wifes kat has a gsxr1100j front wheel. Was really awkward to fit to the bandit forks. Stick with the stock bandit front bit get a deep profile tyre. Sprocket I think are 17 front 45 rear. That makes a 530 close to stock.48 on the rear will make it accelerate well. I think I got our sprocket from bc in Lincoln. U slay need a small spacer behind the front sprocket to align the wheel. I also used a Gs500 twin sprocket carrier.so look out for one of them. Glad ur wife talked u into doing the kat up. Also glad ur going to re join the club. By the way you can do it through paypal now

Gixxer 1100K front end goes in as well as do most Suzook front ends from that time frame, stem and bearing sizes are mostly the same. Lock stops and stem length are the 2 things to check. Most 4.5" rear wheels slot straight in to the standard arm with no modification. Again the only thing to check is the chain run.
And if you want to get rid of the Astralites.........

Thanks again - hugely helpful.
Should I decide to part with the Astralites I will give you first refusal. I imagine they are worth quite a few quid nowadays though...cough.

Thanks again. I have PM'd Steve about the seat and I've PM'd Fossie about my membership.
By the way - my wife saw me reading Classic Bike with your bike on the front and asked, "isn't that like yours?". That was how the conversation led to me sorting the old girl (bike) out. That's the third time I've read about one of your bikes and she's said, "ooh, that's nice". She must be a Suzuki fan.
There's a faired EFE in blue on Eeeeeebay at the moment that I'm bidding on but it looks to be going beyond my price range. How much do you think 250870720289 is worth? It looks pretty perfect.
Cheers
