frigging nut or bolt that wont frigging budge

The 2 broken exhaust studs that i have put off trying to get out were getting on my nerves whilst trying to clean the engine today. So, armed with a blowtorch some wax and my trusty molegrips i set about attacking them. Having skirted them with oil everytime i could remember when in the garage i laughingly assumed they would just fall out when threatened with my motley collection of tools.

Broken stud number 1 had a fair amount of length on it and i could get plenty of grip on it. heated it up and used a trick i saw on youtube of using some wax on it when hot. apparently the oil in the wax is drawn into the threads and helps. Hurrah ! After a few twists back and forth the mother started moving. Little did i know this was just a trick to lull me into a false sense of acheivment :(

The second stud is a lot shorter in length and my molegrips didnt get much of a purchase on it. Not sure where to go with this one. Was thinking of hacksawing a slot in the top to get a screwdriver on, but i reckon the stud is so tight in htere that it wont budge with a screwdriver.

Any suggestions ? the stud is sticking out about a quarter of an inch.

Have'nt i been here before ???????

Thanks in advance

Pete

you could also drill the stud and thread the hole and screw a bolt on.

Hope it helps pete.

Cheers Arnaud, No dont have a welder :( I was going to try and drill it and use a extractor, but i have a feeling that my karma level is a bit low :( have bitten the bullet and bunged the engine in the Previa and taken it to my mate Russ at the bike shop. He takes pity on me :)

your best tool for this are 'Irwin Stud Extractors'
awesome tools, they're like a socket set that has an inverse thread on the inside of the socket, and works similar to an easy out

Cheers Katrider. That looks interesting. bit cheaper than a welding machine so i will give that a go next time it happens.

Thanks

They're awesome I have to say..... Didn't help me tho when one of mine sheared flat with the head. There was nothing sticking out to grip on to.

A Drill on low speed then the use of an easy-out was my only saviour

That is until you snap the easy out........in the drilled hole!
And then the only way to get it out is spark erode the thing as they're harder than a Millwall fan on Crack C0caine!
