I am sure "we" could cut and shape this stuff so that it fits into the recesses.

You are right but it is quite a complex shape to reproduce. The front is not flat as it has that raised section in the centre, the edge is beveled at different angles and has a lip which fits over the outside of the rear cover. If someone has a mini router or something to do some precision cutting then it could be possible.

I am not near my clocks but that sounds like hard work.

I will have a look after Christmas and see what I can do my end, I have a pretty good workshop where I work so someone might be able to help. There is a guy that does all engraving for us but I don't know if he can do intricate stuff.

Will keep everyone posted on this.

i have started and replacing the clear sections is looking awkward at best, having had a good look at the cover its a mad shape that would need moulding i dont think you are ever going to cut and shape it, anyway

Im thinking it wouldnt be any good using perspex or acrylic as it yellows and fractures with age (back to square one ) polycarbonate would be better as its a lot stronger just my twopenneth :D
