Silver engine paint

Post by helsinki vampire » Thu Nov 17, 2011 12:52 pm

Out of curiosity ... I have trawled through some pages on here.

Silver paint for engines.
What is good and lasts and with stands high heat.

Also I seem to recall people saying some silver engine paints went a bit yellow tinged over time??? or am I imagining this.

Knowing some of the kats have splendidly silver engines I wonder if anyone could advise?
Someone said smoothrite but I have always found it gloopy and didn't fancy it.
Is there a nice silver engine paint that could be used ?

Hope someone can help :)

Hi I used vht silver and it went yellow when i cured it in an oven. Resprayed it with spherex engine enamel looked good but washed off when petrol spilt on it. finally put on smoothrite silver goes on real nice looks good and once its dry doesn`t wash off with petrol splills.
So thats what i`d recommened def use it again.

the speerex is ok, but the curing process is critical and you only get one chance to do it right. ive a small electric baby belling oven to bake stuff in now to cure it. cure it too hot too quick and it will just come off,

used smoothrite on numerous parts never (touchwood) had a problem with it so far
as for gloopy spray on in thin coates allowing 5-10 min between coates

used it on subaru impeza brake calipers no problem lasted better than my mates "proper caliper paint"
and yes they got hot
