When does the sale of a non running machine that is a pile of scrap parts and been laid up forgotten about/ Fannied about with/ shunted from one location to another , become a project sale ...

At the moment there are 4 "projects " for sale ...1/an 1100 engine in thou butchered frame with no V5
Project price £995 non runner price about £250!
2/ ..a 550 mostly there left for years £500 project price ...as a non running 550 £200!
3/ ..popup ...knackered plastic loads missing ..tail light streetfightered, not run in years rusty with rusty 4-1 ...project price £995....non running Es £200 on a good day!
4/...Gs650 Kat start price 99p ...one owner from import owner used it then needed to sort a valve ,so he bought a gasket kit stripped cleaned engine sourced spare parts , comes with manual and receipts currently £150. Now this IS actually a project and the prices are the same for non runner and project but could go up.

If somebody wants to pay top dollar for a 'project' instead of a scrapper it's up to them, reminds me of a mate who bought a watch from the Ukraine, the description on the package was 'watch, demonstration model' in other words 'watch, broken' :)

Not sure either. Also; way too much pre-molested garbage floating around! And of course the brown seat is the cause of the high pricing… 😒

That's one very good question.
I'd say the answer mite be, if the person selling or buying it thinks it's a collectable classic and they think say a gs550 with parts missing and not running is worth £995 as they think when it's restored it will be worth £4000 lol

As to a lot of molested garbage out there, the problem being, is a lot of the bikes we are riding are old (like use lol) and over the years people have altered them to there taste, as a standard bike is not everyone cup of tea and as bikers we should not frown apon other biker's who customised there own bike, but the next owner may want to put it back to standard and there for the molested parts ;)

If we took the recent Wussykat as an example, not one of the bikes could be describe as "Factory" However all the owners got pleasure from owning and riding them. They made a conversation piece with others when we stopped. Speculation on whether a particular bike model will become an investment ultimately detracts from the hobby and will reduce it to the few. The over valuing of project bikes may in part be due to the value of unobtainable parts and not the true worth of the project. It really boils down to what it's worth to you.
