just get a friend to write you out a reciept, hows the dvla going to know where you bought it?

From what I read, only the garage report is from before you bought it, and the written receipt can be from now as you as owner, so as JohnR says get someone to supply I guess. I can see if you wanted to go smaller CC so cheaper tax they would want that info but bigger? Just more and more bureaucracy now a days.
