Doing a little more work on the 400 and noticed a strange lump on the rear lens that on closer inspection wasn't there when it was new:
Further investigation found that someone had replaced the standard 5W number plate bulb with a 21W item! Hence the extra heat had melted the lens. There really are some nobs about.
I think a previous owner just fitted what to was hand regardless if it was correct; given the front tyre was the wrong size as well and hence the mudguard raised 10mm to suit!
Melted rear light lens.
Re: Melted rear light lens.
You're right, some of these people should never be allowed near a bike, the problem with the 400 lamp (just like my 250) is that suzuki fitted two bulbs in the housing, one for rear light and a separate one for the stoplamp instead of a dual filament bulb (think it was because they didn't want an extra numberplate lamp) there is a second hand rear light on e-bay with a seller from godstone in surrey, i popped over there and got the handlebar switchgear, fuse box cover and clutch cable from the same bike, i asked to see what other parts he had left and he brought out a bucket with a battery cage, rear light and lower frame bar in it, that was all that was left!

Re: Melted rear light lens.
I was thinking about what you said in my other posting about the wrong tyre.
I did see that lens on Ebay. I might just leave - if i make it too nice I know I'll get all precious over it!
