Spending time in the garage proved to be fruitfull.
Following on from the advice given me early on this week about the noise coming from the engine of my katana, i discovered it was the timing chain.
What had happened was someone previous had made the mistake of letting the little screw tighten as the locknut was tightened causing the tensioner to jam.
Obviously this meant the chain had become slack. So a little adjustment a check and noise disappeared.
Still got a slight leak of oil from head gasket but hopefully that will be a winter job.

Is the head gasket leak from the sides or the front ?

Head gasket is leaking from the front and is occasionally dripping on the exhaust headers which does concern me a bit.

I think it might have been suggested before but it's probably the cylinder head nut O rings. I've just fitted new ones while rebuilding an engine, It's just the two front centre nuts either side of the cam chain tunnel you need to take off, they have an O ring around them (cheap to buy) you need to remove the cam cover but once removed it'll take 5 minutes to change them, then re torque nuts to 29ft/lb and replace cam cover.
If they are worn the oil goes past them, down the studs and comes out at the front of the head gasket area.

I think i'l have a look next week, i'l get some seals anyway. Didnt quite realise that i can do these without doing head gasket

yes my leaking head turned out to be the o rings worth trying them first

Its very easily mistaken for a headgasket leak but very common for the O rings to fail causing frontal leak on gsx engines

why not , i go to buy another bike but tell wife i'm considering selling one of first , new bike arrives stock goes up and non sold Simples

Why not? How many pairs of shoes has your missus got , ..........she can only wear one pair at a time , so that argument is sorted, investment. .....have you seen the price people are advertising Kats for.....


Please note I have never used these arguments personally mainly because with out my missus this club wouldn't exist . However in theory both points are sound, so it all depends on bottle really
