Mot and tax free....
So many for sale adverts are stating will be tax and MOT free next year, which is understandable as Xreg Kats should fall into 40 years old . Is this the case ?
Obviously even those tucked away in garages in harmony with current keepers are waiting for New Year and the nearly £100 yearly bonus .. ( not tax or mot , but can use bike as before . )
Grey area is the truth ... If your log book says manufactured in 1982 , then yes...but if it log book says registered after 8 th January 1982 , you need to wait until the next year 2023.
( common sense should prevail and the manufactured date should be used ..but to be fair it is ambiguous . )
You need to present a V112 at the post office with the log book ..V5 ..and fill in form , which the send off. The V112 is a self certificate to state why it is MOT free.
Just for info really but we shall see.

Re: Mot and tax free....
My X7 is classed as historic. I just filled out the tax form and the MOT exempt form and went to the post office. First post office claimed that it wasn't possible, but the second one found the correct bit of the computer screen after a bit of searching. Make sure they give you a receipt for your V5 form, the PO system prints it out.
IIRC, you still have to make a tax declaration every year, even though there is no charge. Also, you are saying that your bike is roadworthy. If you have an accident and it's found to be a mechanical problem, you *might* be in trouble with your insurance.

Re: Mot and tax free....
So, I just dug out my logbooks, and my bikes were registered Nov 81, and Apr 82, so looks like one will become exempt next year, and the other in 2023...
I'd better get investigating this V112.....

Re: Mot and tax free....
If the one registered in Apr 82 says manufactured 1982 on the front page it could be worth a punt .
Re: Mot and tax free....
Did my gs1000 last year/this year
The date in v5 was 15th January so they would do it as not ex but had to wait a year till it became Tax ex.
Was very easy just went to post office (that dose tax) gave them the v5 and v112 and they sorted it on there system.

Re: Mot and tax free....
The time is taken from the date of manufacture, and as you have that on your V5 you will be good to go with 40 years from that year. I have one manufactured in 1972, but registered in the UK in 1982 and that has been Historic taxation class since 2002 IIRC, as at that time it was 30 years not 40.
