Fuel Filter Fiasco

Has anyone on here ever had one of those jobs that should have taken minutes but ended up taking hours? Yesterday I decided to change the fuel filter on my 250 Kat, I've done this every year (about six) since I bought it, but to 'save time' I thought that I could change the filter with the petrol tank on the bike (previously I removed it) ten minutes and some cut fingers later job done, but as I was basking in my glory I noticed that the little fuel flow arrow on the filter was pointing in the wrong direction! so a tank off and two hours later it was done properly, I bet a few of you on here have even worse nightmares or jobs that have taken an age to finish, lets hear them

do you araldite a magnet to the filter? if theres any rust in the tank it is fine enough to get through any filter you may fit to thee bike, however, as the rust is dissolved iron, it wont escape the magnet which will hold it inside the filter. i always do this now, due to the ethanol in petrol being hydroscopic so theres more chance of water absorbtion into the fuel.

Magnet is an interesting idea, what size magnet do you use? Have you any photos of it?

I just use a tiny magnet i bought off ebay, neodymium i think theyre called. theyre dirt cheap to buy.

Very handy espically at that price, but are Suzuki 6mm or 8 mm?

Yep that is a good price, i'd have thought 6mm would do it, unless it's a big bore special..

My 250 Kat fuel pipes are 8mm, you can get them in 8mm size as well

Trouble with that type I find is that they are so damn big for the space under the tank - 68mm long and 32mm wide. I tend to use the K&N type https://www.knfilters.co.uk/search/prod ... od=81-0231 which are only 44mm long.

If you ever have any old Hard Drives then take them apart and use the magnets from the drive that controls the the actuator arms in those - they are pretty damn powerful (though some types might be too big.
