Guy Martin on the Vintage Suzuki Katana at Spa

Post by Uncle Bob » Sat Jun 24, 2017 8:20 pm

For those who hadn`t seen the Facebook post

https://www.morebikes.co.uk/39159/guy-m ... next-week/

I was looking for an excuse for quick bike trip into Europe so am planning on going (only saw today so some last minute planning, so all being well) but probably on the VStrom, though I did find the 400 Katana good over to Germany last year, .so not 100% sure yet.

Been to the biker classics a few times and it has been good.

Should have said, we could have given you a banner / katana flag to wave encouragement.

I probably would have used it as an umbrella! It rained from when I woke up to when I went to bed!

Had a good weekend though. I even caught up with a contact via my brother via facebook who was there with Grumpy1260 - they'd hired a garage for the weekend and were taking part in some track time. I didn't know he was there even, but he saw my FB posts - so finally FB was useful to me!

I did see there were 2 Katana's in the Team Classic Suzuki garage. No 54 was the Guy Martin / Pete Boast one. The No 66 one shown, the guy I was taking to, said some Australian guy (loaded - something to do with the America's Cup yacht races) had bought it to race it (not himself but with other riders). Haven't looked into that, so not sure, but they were both going round. Guy Martin / Pete Boast finished 7th overall (cut short by 20mins due to oil on track) - have to say Spa would have been bad with just the rain, but the race started at 8pm and once it got dark as well, you have to give the riders credit for doing it.

Funnily enough I did see Guy Martin at the Bastonge War Museum first earlier in the day. It was good to see him race and Le Mans start I guess, but I really wanted to see the Katana's and due to him riding one they had increased controls (pit garage door down directly in front); so with the other teams, you could walk around the bikes and get up close, but not with the Katana's - that's as close as I got. Maybe if I had been there earlier it would have been different. Good event and lovely riding area.
