My dream bike!!!

Post by fossie » Wed May 28, 2025 11:41 pm

Being serious , this was my dream bike and still is really :o
I loved my A reg ESD ..I rode it , dispatched it , it was my wedding car...But I always wanted the Jap market black with cherry red deals ..
Now there is a "brand new " for sale .. 0 miles , been in a private museum collection , so what's the issue ? most importantly for sale with a dealer I wouldn't piss on if it was on fire! Secondly the price , while it's unregistered , it's 40 years old , so are the seals  Thirdly with 7 bikes that I struggle to give the correct attention to adding another is lunacy. ah well!

Few years ago there was a German guy trying to sell an unused Katana from his collection. No way to get it registrated for regular street use in Germany, as it would be looked upon as a new bike having to meet all regulations environmentalwise. Haven’t seen bike nor guy for some years. No idea if it was ever sold.

That is nice, but as you say, will need work and probably plenty of it.

In theory it would be easy to register it in UK as it's historic , but it would need the original log book ( which dosen't exist as it wasn't registered in Canada ) so a bill of sale or a dating letter .. Was it declared to HMRC with 14 days of entry to UK ..
So the theory is great , but knowing about the dealer I doubt much of the above ...
Eitherway the reality is it's a max of £2500 bike ...

My buddie back in the day had a 83 (I think) GS550e, wondering if that mini Kat used the same four cylinder, but two carb (two barels in each carb) setup.
82 Katana 1000 (work in progress, but she will be beautiful she has a dedicated sugar daddy)
2010 Z1000 (50k miles, I think that is like 60 Kilometer's or so)

Now I know which machine to which you refer but in the rest of world it was a GSX 550E (ES or ESF) The GS 550 was the same set up as the Kat.. in 83 the engine was given 4 valves per cyl so got the X in GSX ... but not is USA ..
Eitherway the twin choke carbs on that were awful to set up and only appeared on Jap market stuff normally like the $00 impulse , FW, and their early GSXG 400.
