Wow, amazing.

The dude said "In 2 years time bike will be 40 years old which will qualify it to be registered as historic. That will make it MOT and road tax exempt"

So you all must be getting ready to throw a big party since all your bikes will not have to fiddle with MOT soon. It sounds like that is a thorn you your side. Congrats.

A really bad idea in my opinion, looking at some of the bikes now exempt from MOT’s at a recent gathering one had the rear wheel so far out of alignment one side was almost touching the swing arm, it was a wonder the chain stayed on. The other one an old triumph twin had three front wheel spokes missing and most of the rest where loose! the same bike had a sheet of cardboard underneath to catch the “drips”
Some people shouldn’t be allowed to own tools
My T500 is 47yr old now and it’s just undergone a 5yr restoration but after two weeks of riding it I’ve had it MOT tested. It passed with no advisories but I’ve got peace of mind a second set of skilled eyes have been over the bike.

Re MOTs , those who want a safe machine ( in a document sense) can get the test done voluntary....let's face it those who want to can swap stuff over just to get the test done and swap back minutes later...others will want the bike to be right all the time....this won't change .

There is NO mot on bikes in France and they there isn't any more problems than we have with an annual test.

Over 40 yr old bikes should be test every 2 years at 1/2 fee as there isn't anywhere near as much to test as new stuff . But at least there would be some incentive to keep it straight.

I agree, if its on the road, it should be road worthy, but in the US, there is no test for cycles ever. and Cars get a pass if they were born before 1971.
