A bit unloved but it's still an iconic katana. Did my first 145mph (on the track officer) not sure how optimistic the speedo was but it felt fast cheers Patrick P

Hi Fossie. How do you tell the difference between a s1 and a s2? Can you also tell me if the engine number is supposed to match the frame number.

Hi blix. Just been out and checked 16" front wheel and are these the funny handlebars you were talking about as I thought these were after market, will save me an awful lot of grief if they are original

To be honest recognising it as a S2 was very simple, A registration to start with then the wheels are 6 spoke rather than snow flake pattern , lastly foot pegs are replaceable rubber over alloy .
As for bars they are aftermarket ,as a replacement for the originals which were tillers and junked in jap about 1/2 hour after the rider got home I should image.
Stick with those , they are a very good neutral position and compliment the 16" steering well.
I'm concerned about the statement saves a lot of grief if they are original! This suggests restoration back to some factory setting.........This is to be avoided at all costs ....and it will. Set it up for you to ride it comfortably , Denmark next year will be much more enjoyable!
Blix clearly pass little attention , my S2 has the same bars .....and his bike was parked next to mine a couple of weekends ago

The bars fitted to these are not the e hangers , the only one we have in the club is Andy Heskeths , they come back to where the fuel cap is ....weird.

The best I could find at the moment but gives an idea of the monstrous original items:
Weren't they fitted because the clip ons were too much of a reach for the generally shorter Japanese, so they could reach the bars easier?
Fossie - you are so funny about people keeping things original. I like my GSX1100SD more or less standard, apart from the Eagle 4 into 1, SZ paint scheme, soon to be YSS piggy backs
Trouble is I'm a bit OCD over it (no really), I can't help it!

It was so PatrickP could get an idea of the original handle bars not really the bike... I should have cropped the images!
