Clutch noise

My Kat is now getting very rough when riding, it's got to the point where I don't trust it and I'm not riding it because it's not pleasant to ride and I'm afraid of causing irreparable damage. I'm sure I've read somewhere on here that the clutch is prone to working loose but the search brings up everything bar what I want! The symptoms are a semi regular knock at tickover and a vibration when riding, pulling the clutch lever doesn't seem to stop the noise at tickover
Before I drain the oil and pull the cover off is there anything I need to be aware of it is there anything else that might be causing my problem?
Thanks in advance, PaulD

If pulling the clutch in doesn't alter the sound ....it ain't the clutch
A constant knock that is repedative but disappears on higher revs is cam end float float and on a scale of 1to 10 is a 1 in worries. Other reasons are carbs out of balance.
I know you did them but unless the valves clearances were carried out first the carbs were balanced to an uneven vacuum pressure anyway, so any alteration will be felt more.

Ok thanks Fossie, I’ll recheck the valves and then balance the carbs again to see if it makes any difference. I’ll let you know what happens ;)

check that your generator hasnt come loose, its not unknown for them to do so, also the three allen bolts that secure the flywheel onto the starter clutch have been known to either come loose, or even to come loose and then shear off, so take the cover off pull the flywheel and check it.drop the oil into a clean containr and check for metalic bits in there, pull the sump off and see if theres anything in there.
ok, this is a long long long shot and i dont want to cause any panic, but im mentioning it because one of mine did this, a bottom end rumbling rattling noise with occasional loud clanks and rough running is just what one of my old motors did before conrod number one let go and made a bid for freedom through the cases. not saying its that, but its worth being aware of this.
